BOOK LAUNCH Child of a Child

DATELINE: The United Nations General Assembly 78th Session (UNGA 78)

EVENT: Launching of the Book, “Child of a Child,” and Spotlight on UN-SDGs for Gender Equality, Education, and Inclusive Access.  (On The Sidelines of UNGA 78)

The United Nations is hosting its 78th General Assembly (UNGA 78), and as usual, has brought together the biggest conclave of world leaders, statesmen and women, captains of industry, and other notable global figures in one location on Earth. On the momentous sidelines of the global event, on Thursday, September 21, 2023, “Child of A Child,” the autobiography authored by Ambassador (Dr.) Monica Sanchez, was launched. The book dwells expansively on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs), with more than passing focus on gender equality, education, and full access to services and goods for marginalized people. The book was conceptualized to serve as a powerful tool to inspire action, to educate, and to advocate for a fairer and more inclusive world, where every person, regardless of their background, has equal opportunities to thrive.

It was a totally exhilarating event that incorporated the presentation of the Danny Glover Power of Dreams Award, a fashion show that featured the iconic Hibiscus Cotoure designer, Denise Daly, and the book unveiling and presentation itself, in which there was an introduction to the book’s concept, objectives, and its relevance in addressing the UN-SDGs for gender equality, education, and inclusive access.

Ambassador (Dr.) Monica Sanchez, the book’s author, is a renowned educator and scholar who advocates for gender equality and the SDGs. In her book, she discusses the importance of providing inclusive and quality education to marginalized communities, while highlighting the barriers faced by marginalized people in accessing services and goods, and emphasizing the importance of inclusivity, and the potent and effective strategies for creating an equitable world for all.

A keynote speech was given by His Majesty King Makitu III from Angola, on gender equality, and the empowerment and protection of girls worldwide. He further dwelt on the critical importance of achieving gender equality, while also highlighting the challenges faced by girls, and presenting viable initiatives for promoting their empowerment and protection. A campaign was launched to promote “Education for All – Unlocking Opportunities and Breaking Barriers.”
